Live and act

Günther Morgenweck, son of a master carpenter and sawmill owner, attended the secondary school in Bad Salzungen and passed the Abitur there in 1929. After a two-year apprenticeship on a manor near Weimar, he studied agriculture at the University of Jena from 1931 , passed the examination to become a certified farmer in 1934 and received his doctorate there in 1935 with a dissertation on water loss, disease and germination behavior of potatoes. Then he followed his teacher Ernst Klapp to the Hohenheim Agricultural University . Here he worked as a scientific assistant at the Württemberg State Plant Breeding Institute, which is affiliated with the university.

In 1939, Morgenweck took on a teaching position at the University of Bonn . Up until the winter semester of 1941/42 he held lectures there on general and special crop science . As a student of Ernst Klapp in Bonn, he mainly dealt with questions in the field of grassland theory . He published several articles in the journal Pflanzenbau . In July 1942 he completed his habilitation at the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Bonn with the text Structure comparisons of arable and grassland , a remarkable study in which he demonstrated that the physical soil properties deteriorate considerably after the plowing of grassland areas. In the autumn of 1942, Morgenweck was drafted into the Wehrmacht.
