Gürbetal-Bern-Schwarzenburg Railway
The Gürbetal-Bern-Schwarzenburg-Bahn ( GBS ) is a former Swiss railway company.
The GBS was created on January 1, 1944 from the merger of the Gürbetalbahn (GTB) from Thun via Belp to Bern , which opened on August 14, 1901, with the Bern-Schwarzenburg Railway (BSB) from Bern to Schwarzenburg, which opened on June 1, 1907 .
The BSB line was run on June 1, 1907 from Bern to Schwarzenburg , 31 km away . Between Bern main station and Bern Fischermätteli, both railways use a 5 km long joint route. Electric operation was introduced in 1920.
In June 1997 the GBS merged with the Spiez-Erlenbach-Zweisimmen-Bahn , the Bern-Neuchâtel-Bahn and the Berner Alpenbahn-Gesellschaft Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon (BLS) to form the BLS Lötschbergbahn , which in turn was responsible for regional transport in 2006 Mittelland merged to form BLS AG .
Today the infrastructure of the GBS is used by the lines S3, S31, S4 and S44, as well as S6 of the S-Bahn Bern .
