The Gütegemeinschaft der Motoreninstandsetzungbetriebe eV (GMI) is an association of quality-oriented engine reconditioners from all over Germany. It has set itself the task of setting high quality criteria and regular monitoring of the member companies that have committed to complying with the requirements. The aim is to ensure high-quality products and services for all types of internal combustion engines, from the repair of individual engine parts to the general overhaul of the entire engine. The RAL quality mark for engine repairs may only be used by certified member companies.
history
The Gütegemeinschaft der Motoreninstandsetzungbetriebe eV (GMI) was founded in 1977. In cooperation with the umbrella and supporting organization RAL German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labeling eV and with the participation of ministries, associations and testing institutions, the so-called quality and testing regulations were developed in which the strict quality criteria are formulated that must be met by a company, to be able to use the RAL quality mark. The obligation for internal and external monitoring is also laid down in the quality and test regulations. Since then, the regulations have been regularly adapted to current technical standards. The GMI currently has 19 members and six associate members.
The RAL quality mark for engine repairs (RAL-GZ 797)
The RAL quality mark for engine repair (RAL-GZ 797) applies to all internal combustion engines from cars, vintage cars and trucks to aggregates, construction, agricultural and forestry machines to rail engines and marine diesel engines. Only member companies of the Gütegemeinschaft der Motorenenstandsetzungbetriebe eV (GMI) are allowed to mark their products and services with the RAL quality mark.
The prerequisite for use is that every work step in an engine repair and the associated performance is carried out in accordance with the clear specifications that are recorded in writing in the quality and test regulations. The quality and test regulations contain, among other things, criteria for the training of skilled workers, for the technical equipment of the companies and for a transparent working method.
Marking with the RAL quality mark for motor repair takes place in two variants: Complete motors repaired according to RAL criteria, i. H. Completely delivered engines (e.g. with turbocharger and other essential components), as well as short engines (long block) receive a sticker with the RAL quality mark. Assemblies, individual and spare parts such as cylinder head , crankshaft or other tested and repaired components can be recognized by an embossing with a steel hand stamp. The markings are made regardless of whether the service is delivered in exchange for an old part or a service is provided on the customer's property.
The Quality Association of Motor Repair Companies (GMI) has to ensure that the criteria specified in the quality and test regulations are adhered to by the member companies. External experts commissioned by it regularly and unannounced check whether the companies meet the requirements for technical equipment and personnel. In addition, the companies must be able to prove that they continuously monitor compliance with the quality and test regulations themselves.
