Volume 1: "The GAN Amulet" tells about the main character Finn Petersen, a 12-year-old student who finds an amulet with his grandfather during the holidays that has special powers and takes him to the hidden land of GAN. In GAN he experiences adventures with three young people of the same age, Joe, Chika and Pendo - also wearers of amulets -, meets fantastic beings and fights against dark creatures. The demanding task of amulet wearers from the "four ends of the earth", which means different parts of the world, is to prevent the "source of life" in GAN from drying up.

Volume 2: "Darkness over GAN" : The four heroes keep in touch via the Internet and are called to GAN again a year later. Its residents have chosen a king from their ranks, Farlon I. He wants to open the country's borders in order to bring progress and modern technology to GAN. GAN residents are concerned as evil forces are entering GAN. Four messengers, Alon, Daniel, Alfrigg and Elbachur, set out to get the amulet-bearers to help. Together they try to prevent a momentous law from becoming valid in GAN.

Volume 3: "Last Rescue for GAN" The adventures of the young people Finn, Pendo, Joe and Chika in GAN are linked at the beginning of the volume with a crisis in the real world. The lovable fantasy land of GAN has become hopeless and the young heroes are challenged to avert an existential threat from evil. A cheeky miner lays claim to the throne of GAN and has got involved with the "black albums". Many GAN residents have disappeared without a trace. The young companions go to underground chambers, eerie forests and abandoned palaces. The relation to the different characters and the real world of the protagonists plays an important role in the volume.

characters

The four amulet wearers are 12 years old at the beginning of the GAN saga and only got their magic amulets two days ago. In addition to Finn Petersen, who lives in Frankfurt and found the amulet with his grandfather in Husum, the reader learns the following: Chochuschuvio, called Joe, is an Indian boy who belongs to the Hopi tribe and whose family runs a farm on a reservation in Colorado. Chika San lives with her parents in a skyscraper in Kyoto and got the amulet from her grandmother for her birthday. Pendo comes from Cape Town, her parents work in a diamond mine in South Africa and she got her amulet from an aunt. This gives the young reader a realistic insight into the worlds of young people in different cultures.

In GAN there are fantastic creatures: miners who live in the glittering vaults of the lower earth, powerful light albums in wonderful castles, talking animals and people, as well as Nebjah, the guardian of the source of life. There are also dangerous black albums with red-hot eyes, malicious miners and a fire-breathing crocodile. The key figure is Äbrah, the silver or gold pelican who sacrifices himself for his companions and conquers evil.

The companions are provided with the necessary equipment by Nebjah and the light albums, e.g. B. a camouflaging and climate-regulating cape or cornucopia-like pockets from which the protagonists can always get what they need - such as food, light or tools.

reception

  • buchtips.net finds that the author succeeded "not only in entertaining, but also in stimulating thought."
  • patchoulis-buecherwelt writes: the book "is and will remain a children's book and whoever expects bloody fighting scenes should avoid this work, but the structure and the idea itself shows great tension."
