GLOBE program

GLOBE program stands for Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment and refers to an international program in geosciences and ecology initiated on April 22, 1994 by former US Vice President Al Gore , in which over 17,000 schools in more than 100 countries take part.

It is intended to help protect the earth through scientific education and research. The goals of the worldwide network of students, teachers and scientists are:

  • Promotion of science education according to the latest educational standards
  • Strengthening environmental awareness
  • Deepening the understanding of our system earth through your own contribution to global environmental observation and research

GLOBE Germany

Support of GLOBE Germany was initially the DLR in Cologne, followed by the Leibniz Institute for Science Education at the University of Kiel . The German organization participating in the GLOBE project was funded from 1996 to 2008 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and various sponsors . Funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has now expired and the former GLOBE-Germany website has been switched off. GLOBE-Germany is the successor organization of GLOBE-Germany, which has set itself the goal of continuing to work on the GLOBE project in the USA (GLOBE-USA) and to support schools in this work. GLOBE-Germany is a registered association and is recognized by GLOBE-USA as the official successor and organizes meetings, exchanges of ideas and teacher training.
