GMK analysis

The GMK analysis is a method of materials and warehouse management to classify certain objects according to their volume . The aim is to analyze and optimize storage, handling and transport capacities. A basic distinction is made between

  • large volume (G),
  • medium volume (M) and
  • small volume (K)

Parts. The classification is not based on fixed values, but depends on the relative distance to the average volume of all parts. Large-volume parts take up a lot of space and cause low costs, whereas small parts require less but more expensive space.

Together with the ABC analysis and the XYZ analysis, which evaluate the property value or the consumption structure of the product, the GMK analysis can be used as an instrument for an integrated procurement, warehouse and transport management for up to 27 material groups define. The advantages of this integrated materials management are cost savings, reduced capital commitment, the development of optimal procurement, storage and transport strategies as well as an optimized stockpiling of procurement objects.
