Gabriel Asaad
Gabriel Asaad ( Aramaic ܓܒܪܐܝܠ ܐܣܥܕ; * March 18, 1907 in Midyat , Mardin ; † July 6, 1997 in Stockholm ) was an Assyrian composer and musician. He was also an Assyrian nationalist .
Among the classic songs by Gabriel Asaad are Ho Donho Schemscho (ܗܐ ܕܢܚܐ ܫܡܫܐ “The sun is shining”), Motho Rhimto (ܡܬܐ ܪܚܝܡܬܐ “Beloved Nation”) and Moth Beth-Nahrin (ܡܬܝ ܒܝܬܢܗܪܝܢ “Mesopotamia, my nation”). Gabriel Asaad is one of the pioneers of Assyrian music and composed the first song in Syriac from modern times: Othuroye Ho Mtoth Elfan l-Metba ' (1926, ܐܬܘܪܝܶܐ ܗܐ ܡܛܬ ܐܠܦܢ ܠܡܛܒܥ "Assyrians, our ship is on the way to sink") .
