Gabriel Sala

Gabriel Sala (born July 21, 1942 in Buenos Aires ) is a dancer and choreographer .

Career

Gabriel Sala was born in Buenos Aires to Spanish parents. As a high school graduate he took acting lessons and came to Europe for the first time at the age of 19. When he returned to his hometown, he studied modern and classical dance with Renate Schottelius, Eugenia Feodorova and Lennie Dale. Gabriel Sala then gained practical experience in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires through appearances in shows, musicals and chamber ballets.

Engagement in Europe

In 1967 Sala got his first engagement in Europe (Vienna), then he went as a solo dancer to Freiburg, Saarbrücken, Wiesbaden and Wuppertal, where he was involved in the founding of the Wuppertal dance theater under Pina Bausch . Sala came back to Wiesbaden from Wuppertal and performed the following solo roles under Imre Keres, Roberto Trinchero and Pierre Wyss: "Mandarin" ( The wonderful Mandarin ), "Peer Gynt", "Fee Carabosse" ( Sleeping Beauty ), "Müller" ( The Dreispitz ) , "Stepsister" ( Cinderella ), "Orion" ( Sylvia ), "Poet" (Alice in Wonderland), "The Evil" ( A Faust Symphony ), "Holzprinz" ( The wood-carved prince ), "Tybalt" ( Romeo and Julia ), "Mäusekönig" ( The Nutcracker ), "Producer" (Petruschka / Firebird), "Don Quixote", "Gershwin" (Rhapsody in Blue), "Dr. Beautiful ”(Lulu scenes),“ Laios ”(Oedipus, the human being).

In the 1986/87 and 1987/88 seasons he was ballet director and chief choreographer of the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden .

Awards

In 1984 he received the “Fürst von Thurn und Taxis Förderpreis” for the ballet “Tango” created by him in 1983, which was shown in Wiesbaden, Augsburg, Schwerin and Gießen as well.

Activity as a dance teacher

Since 1970 Gabriel Sala has also been active as a dance teacher in classical and modern dance, flamenco and Argentine tango.
