Gabriel Townsend
Gabriel Townsend (* around 1604; † around 1662) was an English harpsichord maker . He was an apprentice in the workshop of Thomas White , whose son and grandson were also called Thomas White and were harpsichord makers. He later taught John Player and Stephen Keene . Townsend was probably married to the daughter of harpsichord maker John Hasard .
Preserved instruments
- Virginal from 1641; today in the holdings of the Brussels Musical Instrument Museum . The instrument belonged to Elisabeth Stuart . It was her by her brother Charles I paid. Elisabeth Stuart was a skilled musician and student of John Bull .
