Guerschon Yabusele (born December 17, 1995 in Dreux ) is a French basketball player of Congolese descent. He currently plays for ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne .

career

Yabusele went through the youth department of the French club Chorale Roanne Basket and made his debut in France's first division, the LNB ProA , in 2013 at the age of 17 . After relegation, he played one season with Roanne in the second highest division and in 2015 moved to SPO Rouen Basket and thus back to the ProA.

In the 2016 NBA draft , the Boston Celtics secured the rights to Yabusele, who was selected in 16th place. However, the Frenchman did not go directly to the North American league, but initially hired the Chinese club Shanghai Sharks . He chose this step in order to find his way around in an unfamiliar environment for the purpose of further development as a player and person. In addition, he was attracted by the opportunity to move to the United States for the rest of the game year after the end of the season in the Chinese league (early March) . In Shanghai, Yabusele averaged 20.9 points and 9.4 rebounds per encounter and then went to the USA in March 2017 as planned, where he joined the Maine Red Claws , the support team of the Boston Celtics.

In July 2017 he signed a contract with the Celtics. There he did not make the breakthrough in a total of 90 NBA appearances. With the Maine Red Claws, the training team of the Celtics in the NBA G-League , however, he was a top performer. In the summer of 2019, he was removed from the roster by Boston, he moved back to China and joined the Nanjing Tongxi team. In December 2019, the Chinese Basketball Association fined him the equivalent of 1,290 euros for not looking at the Chinese flag while playing the Chinese national anthem before a game with his team, instead bowing his head. At the end of February 2020 he moved to the French first division club ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne .

National team

Yabusele participated with the French national youth teams in the U18 European Championship 2013, the U20 European Championship 2014 and the U20 European Championship 2015. In February 2020 he made his debut in France's national team.
