Gaius Caecina Largus

Gaius Caecina Largus (* in Volaterrae ; † before 57) was a Roman politician and senator .

Largus came from a patrician family from Volaterrae . As a friend of the emperor Claudius, Largus held the ordinary consulate with him in 42 . Largus accompanied Claudius from Ostia to Rome in order to punish Messalina for an assassination attempt against Claudius planned by her. Largus had also been a member of the Arval Brothers' college of priests since 38 .

Largus' house was on the Palatine Hill ; before him it had u. a. Marcus Aemilius Scaurus the Younger belongs. Pliny the Elder reports in his natural history that in his youth he was in the house of Largus, where they talked about the age of the lush hackberry trees , the branches of which cast shadows.

Largus survived Claudius († 54), but died before 57 because he is no longer mentioned among the Arval brothers that year.
