Wolfgang E. Struck

Wolfgang E. Struck (born February 16, 1920 in Soldin ; † February 14, 1989 in Berlin ) was a German actor, director and general manager .

Life

After completing his acting training in 1939, Wolfgang E. Struck performed for the first time in Berlin. In 1938 he joined the NSDAP . After engagements in Koblenz and Wismar , he joined the Berliner Ensemble permanently in 1951 , where he was a member of Bertolt Brecht's staff . He also worked as a director at the cabaret “ Die Distel ”, at the Metropol-Theater and at the Theater der Freund (now Theater an der Parkaue ).

From 1961 to 1988 he was director of the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin . Here he had staged numerous large stage shows. In addition to prominent GDR artists such as Helga Hahnemann , he had also succeeded in attracting international stars, including Louis Armstrong , Liza Minnelli , Udo Jürgens and Caterina Valente . When the old Friedrichstadt-Palast had to be closed, Struck campaigned for a new building not far from the traditional location. This was opened in 1984 on Friedrichstrasse .

Wolfgang E. Struck is buried in the artist graves section at the municipal central cemetery in Friedrichsfelde .
