Galla von Valence (French: Sainte-Jalle ) is a French saint of the 6th century who is especially venerated in the Rhône Valley and Provence .

Live and act

Reliable information on Galla is extremely sparse. Her family may have come from the Pagus Baginensis , d. H. a valley in the area around Nyons . According to a manuscript from the 11th century that is kept in the Vatican Library , she was a young woman from a wealthy family who, however, devoted her life to the service of the poor and sick. In the presence of seven bishops she took the nun's veil in the city of Valence , but did not live in a monastery , but worked in the city, where through her prayer she prevented the Lombards from conquering the city. A short time later she returned to her parents' homeland.

Galla is venerated mainly in the Valence area (parishes in Bourg-lès-Valence and Saint-Marcel-lès-Valence ) and in the Nyons region. Her bones rest in the church of St-Étienne next to the Cathedral of Valence . The Provençal town of Sainte-Jalle bears her name.
