On April 7, 1525, the monastery, which was built by Abbot John III. Spielmann was headed, plundered and a year later, on April 11, 1526, as an act of revenge by the peasants for the execution of their leader Kunz Jehle .

After the Peasants' War he was the 32nd abbot of the monastery from 1532 to 1540. The new cathedral essentially owes its restoration to him. He had it brushed and bribed on the inside, covered the altaria of the several thail all new with stones , repaired the side choirs, demolished the southern tower by one story and built two vaulted armories. Gallus Haas has restored the church and convent in St. Blasien to the same extent and with a similar splendor as before.
