The Gamal Abdel Nasser is an amphibious assault ship and helicopter carrier the Mistral class . It is now in service with the Egyptian Navy .

The ship was ordered by Russia together with its sister Sevastopol as Vladivostok on June 17, 2011 , after a preliminary contract had already been concluded on February 8, 2010. The ship was laid down at STX France in Saint-Nazaire in 2012 . The launch took place on October 15, 2013. In August 2015 the treaty was terminated amicably against the background of the Russian annexation of Crimea . In September 2015 the ship was sold to Egypt together with the sister ship Anwar al-Sadat , originally Sevastopol , and delivered on June 2, 2016.
