Gambia Armed Forces Council
The Gambia Armed Forces Council (GAFC, German Council of the Armed Forces of the Gambia) is an advisory body on the interests of the armed forces of the Gambia.
The functions of the council are to advise the president on all defense and policy matters, including the role of the armed forces, defense budget and finance, administration and any other matter that the president may refer to the council. In addition, the council could also advise the president on the promotion of officers to the ranks of lieutenant colonel or equivalent and above.
history
In May 2020, the National Assembly voted to refer the appointment of Momodou Ndow-Njie and Yusupha Baboucarr Dibba to the Council of the Gambian Armed Forces for consideration by the Assembly's Public Appointments Committee. Defense Minister Sheikh Omar Fye , who tabled the motion to consider the two, said there had never been a functioning armed forces council in the history of the Gambia. "My ministry is convinced that the establishment of this council of this caliber of people will make a significant contribution to the oversight processes and democratic civilian control of the armed forces," he said.
At the end of June 2020, the nomination of Dibba was confirmed by the National Assembly, and the National Assembly requested more information on the nomination of Ndow-Njie.
