Gambian pound
The pound was a currency in the British colony of the Gambia between 1965 and 1971. The Gambia used the West African pound until 1965 before it released its own currency. In 1971 the Gambian pound was replaced by the dalasi with an exchange rate of 1 pound = 5 dalasi, i.e. 1 dalasi = 4 shillings .
Coins
All coins had the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse .

The Gambia 8 shilling coin is the only example of this motif that has been minted. With the exception of the hippo, the reverse designs of the pre-decimal coins have been reused on Gambia's decimal coins.
Banknotes
All banknotes had a sailing boat with a forest as a background on the front.
