Games World was a video game show on Sat.1 . It was moderated by Robby Rob and Norman Adelhütte . The show is based on the eponymous show, which was broadcast by British pay-TV channel Sky One from 1993 to 1995.

The moderators

Norman Adelhütte often presented himself in unusual outfits during the broadcast and was always friendly to the candidates. The self-proclaimed "master of video games", Robby Rob (real name Robert Viktor Minich ), the star of the show, is completely different . He always moderated with a cap with the Games World logo on his head, yellow-transparent (previously red-transparent) glasses and his same white, black and red striped sweater. He began his appearances by jumping on a small trampoline. He always looked at the candidates disparagingly, for example interrupting them while they were giving him an answer to his question, not infrequently with a “sit down!” And was always happy when he was allowed to beam away a retired candidate. When a duel began, he always opened it with the words "The game is starting now!" And threw a large lever.

The broadcast

Games World went on air for the first time on Sunday, March 27, 1994 at 10 a.m. on the private broadcaster Sat.1. The last episodes of the show ran every Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m.

In the “World of Video Games” there were six candidates for each program, each with their own slogan and a spray-coated construction worker jacket. A tournament was held in each broadcast. In the first round two players competed against each other, the winner qualified for the next round. If a candidate was eliminated, he was beamed away. In the second round, the three remaining candidates played one after the other in a game for points, the top two made it to the semi-finals. There was again a direct duel, the winner had to compete in the final against an opponent named Videator by Robby Rob. The videator was determined randomly among several characters, including "Slug, the shadow", "Baron von Zaster", "Big Bad Boy", "Magic GLD" and others. A victory over the Videator brought some additional points in the overall ranking, which extended over several programs. The best placed were allowed to identify the champion among the best in a broadcast, whereupon he was named videator.

In later seasons, after the game show, the two presenters reported on the latest appearances in terms of video games and, for example, presented the brand new Super Game Boy .

The games

Current video games were played on various consoles such as Sonic 2, Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine (both SEGA Mega Drive), Super Mario Bros. 3 ( SNES , Allstars version) or Tempest 2000 ( Atari Jaguar ). Even Neo-Geo -Titel were often played. In the semifinals, a separate Games World game was played in each of the first broadcasts, in which the contestants had to collect pieces of wood or diamonds. The game was later also available for PC on floppy disk. The final was later held in so-called virtual reality . The players wore a VR helmet and had to walk around in a virtual room and find a piece of cheese there.

The magazine

From October 1994 the whole world of video games appeared under the motto ! the Games World magazine, which is about news, reports and tests from the video game industry on Playstation , Sega Saturn , Sega 32X , Sega Mega Drive , SNES , Atari Jaguar , PC CD-ROM, 3DO , Amiga , CD-I , Neo Geo CD, handhelds and arcades took care of. The magazine cost 6.50  DM and consisted of almost exactly 100 pages each. A normal percentage system was used as the rating system, and several editors gave each test a subjective rating of 1 to 10. However, the booklet published by Alchemy Publishing only appeared a short time before it was discontinued.
