Gangarampur is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal .

The city belongs to the Dakshin Dinajpur district . Gangarampur has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 17 wards (constituencies).

Demographics

The city's population is 56,217 according to the 2011 census. Gangarampur has a gender ratio of 932 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 84.6% in 2011. Almost 94% of the population are Hindus , approx. 4% are Christians , approx. 2% are Muslims and less than 1% belong to another or no religion. Children under 6 years of age are 9.8% of the population. Bengali is the main language in and around the city.

Infrastructure

Gangarampur is connected to Kolkata and other cities of West Bengal by bus and rail. The city has a small train station.
