Gangway are a Danish pop band that existed from 1982 to 1998 and have been active again since 2017.

history

Gangway was founded in 1982 by Henrik Balling, Allan Jensen and Jan Christensen in Copenhagen . In the beginning they were called Unforced Error and played dark new wave . After a few concerts the underground label Irmgardz noticed them and they got a contract. In 1984 their first album The Twist came out and should sell over ten thousand copies in Denmark. At that time, Christensen was replaced by Gorm Ravn-Jonsen.

In 1985 the band released three music videos and two singles, one of which was well received in the UK music press. In 1986 Gangway released their second album called Sitting in the Park with the English pop music typical of the time. The album caused a sensation in England and Denmark mainly because of the song My Girl and Me . In the same year they shot the comedy film Gangway in Tyrol in Austria .

In 1987 the band signed a contract with PolyGram and released the album Sitting in the Park (Again!) A year later . In 1990 they signed with Electra and released The Quiet Boy Ate the Whole Cake in 1991 . When the label went bankrupt, they became part of BMG Ariola , and the band's old albums were released in Japan. In 1992 the album Happy Ever After was released , with Cai Bojsen-Møller as a new member. In 1993 they won several Danish music awards, and the album became Gangways' greatest commercial success.

The 1994 album Optimism was less successful, and after a tour of Japan Bojsen-Møller stopped playing with the band. In 1996 they recorded That's Life in London , which sold even fewer albums than its predecessor. After unsuccessful concert tours, the band broke up in 1997. In 1998 BMG released a best-of album. On June 15, 2018, after a 20-year break, her new single "Colorful Combinations" was released and on April 12, 2019, her new album "Whatever It Is" was released as a limited signed LP and CD.
