Gaojiazhen site

The Gaojiazhen site ( Chinese  高家 镇 遗址 , Pinyin Gāojiāzhèn yízhǐ , English Gaojiazhen Site ) is a paleolithic site in Fengdu County of the government direct city ​​of Chongqing in southwest China . The site is located on the 3rd terrace of the right bank of the Yangtze River in the area of ​​the village of Guihua (桂花 村) of the large community of Gaojia (高家 镇Gaojia zhen ). The sites were excavated in 1995 and 1998 by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences , the Chongqing Natural History Museum, and the Fengdu County Cultural Objects Administration Bureau . Approximately 2,500 stone artifacts were excavated.

With the discovery of the Paleolithic sites of Gaojiazhen and Yandunbao, the history of the Paleolithic culture in the Three Gorges region was dated from 50,000 to 100,000 years.

The Gaojiazhen site ( Gaojiazhen yizhi ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-102) since 2001 .
