Garbage Pail Kids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Garbage Pail Kids ( "trash Children") is a set of stickers - trading cards , produced by the company Topps produced. Originally released in 1985, they were designed to parody the " Cabbage Patch Kids " dolls popular at the time .

Each trading card features a Garbage Pail Kid character with a comical anomaly , deformity and / or terrible fate with a humorous pun character name, such as Adam Bomb or Blasted Billy . Two versions of each card were made, with the variants featuring the same work of art but a different character name, identified by a letter “a” or “b” after the card number. The front of the stickers are punched so that only the figure with the name tag and the GPK logo can be removed from the back. Many of the backs of the cards feature jigsaw pieces that form huge murals, while other subjects on the back vary widely across the various series, from humorous licenses and awards to comic strips and, in more recent releases, humorous Facebook profiles.

15 Original Series (OS) of regular trading cards have been released in the United States , and various sets have been released in other countries. In addition, two large-format map editions and a set of fold-out posters were released. All-New Series (ANS) were introduced in 2003, flashback re-releases began in 2010, and a brand-new series (BNS) was announced for 2012, followed by the all-new Series 2, Chrom S1 and BNS3 in 2013. A new format was released in 2014, using the year to denote the issue, followed by the name of Series 1, which was in an Olympic-style format. In 2016, the format was switched back to theme sets that parody various pop culture themes. In April 2020, Topps announced that it would bring digital Garbage Pail Kids trading cards in the form of non-fungible tokens to the blockchain to celebrate the brand's 35th anniversary .

The film adaptation Die Schmuddelkinder (original title: "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie") from 1987 is considered one of the worst films of all time.
