Die Schmuddelkinder (original title: "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie" ) is an American feature film from 1987. Rod Amateau acted as screenwriter, producer and director; it was his last directorial work. The film is considered to be one of the worst films of all time.

Teenager Dodger is attacked by a group of hooligans and a group of small, sometimes deformed children, the "dirty children", are rescued.
From the shopkeeper Manzini he learns that the dirty children were hidden in a garbage can to protect them from possible attacks by "normal" people. Only with magic could they get back into the bin. Now in freedom, the children wreak havoc at first; later they decide to mingle with the "normal" people in disguise.
The ringleader of the rowdies, Juice, uses a suitable moment to kidnap the filthy children and lock them up in a camp for "abnormal" people. Here they meet Santa Claus, Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln, among others . Manzini and Dodger free the children who no longer want to return to their garbage can and set off to experience more adventures.

- The film is based on the Garbage Pail Kids collection card series ("Die totally kaputten Kids"), popular from around 1985, especially in English-speaking countries, with motifs of abnormal, deformed, overweight or otherwise deviating from common ideals children.
- The film had its US cinema premiere on August 22, 1987. On a budget of $ 30 million, he only brought back $ 1,576,615.
- The film's open ending was supposed to form the basis for the television series Garbage Pail Kids .
- The film was broadcast on tm3 for the first time and so far only on German free TV on March 3, 2000 .
- In the Family Guy episode, Brian's old friend (season 8), Mayor West searches the video store for a DVD of the film and is delighted to find one.

Reviews
The consistently negative film criticism complained in particular of involuntary humor, poor actors and special effects. On the critic portal Rotten Tomatoes it is one of the worst rated films with a rating of 0%.
