INOSOFT Garibaldi is a web-based software distribution system from the manufacturer INOSOFT AG from Marburg , which is used by large companies to create and manage standardized Windows computer systems. INOSOFT Garibaldi has been developed by the Marburg system house since 2001, the current version 3.1 has been available since 2008. The product competes with the Deployment Toolkit (formerly: Business Desktop Deployment ) from Microsoft .
This system offers the creation of an operating system image that contains the complete range of software with which the Windows computer would later be equipped. It also offers a software distribution system that automatically supplies these computers with new or additional software components.
Typical functions of this product are the creation of images based on a reference computer, the grouping of software to be installed to simplify the installation on the reference computer, and the management and distribution of operating system and software updates to clients that are already installed.
The manufacturer names a number of 250,000 computers for the customers who use INOSOFT Garibaldi, some of which were equipped with a Windows system and the associated applications with the help of this software.
System structure
INOSOFT Garibaldi consists of an administrative interface implemented as a web application with a Microsoft SQL Server database in the background and a release for the software installations to be used.
Application area
The use of this software is intended for large companies that regularly exchange their employees' computers and are thus forced to install an operating system and the software to be used by the employee. Without documentation of the components used, the overview of the products used can be lost.
To use INOSOFT Garibaldi , a software combination must first be put together that meets the needs of the company and whose compatibility has been tested and ensured. This software constellation is entered in Garibaldi and a reference computer is created automatically. Garibaldi now creates an image of the reference computer. This image can be automatically transferred to the clients. If changes or updates are made to this image afterwards, the software automatically collects and distributes these to the clients.
Emergence
The product arose from the idea of offering large companies that spend a lot of time installing software and operating systems on computers a quick and inexpensive solution for distributing these software components. The .NET platform, newly released by Microsoft, was used for implementation in 2002 and has supported all Microsoft operating systems and Office products since Windows 2000 and Office 2000 . After some experience with the efficiency of the implementation of this idea, the Microsoft product was awarded the Microsoft Award for the best software product 2003 by its managing director Steve Ballmer .
