The Gartell Light Railway is a privately operated narrow-gauge railway located at Yenston , south of Templecombe , in Somerset , England .
Route
The 1.2 km long line with a gauge of 610 mm (2 feet ) runs partly on the route of the former Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway . There are four stops: Common Lane, Pinesway Junction, Park Lane, and Tower View.
The railroad uses an extensive signaling system that is served by two signal boxes in Common Lane and Pinesway Junction.
The railroad is open to the public several days a year, with three trains typically operating, with one train leaving Common Lane station every 20 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
history
The railway enthusiasts John and Christine Gartell, together with their family and friends, put the railway line into operation for public transport in 1991. Since then, the railway has developed into a tourist attraction.
The route with the junction to the locomotive shed and the wagon shed offers the unusual possibility that two trains with different destinations leave at the same time and then one train crosses the other on a bridge.
