Alan Keef
Alan Keef Ltd is a British narrow gauge railway manufacturer that designs, manufactures, maintains, refurbishes and sells locomotives, wagons and accessories.
history
The company was founded in 1975 as a limited liability company in Cote near Bampton in Oxfordshire and continued what Alan Keef had specialized in on his own behalf for several years. In 1986 the company moved to a larger factory building in Lea, near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire .
The first locomotive was built in 1976. By 2008 over 80 steam, diesel and electric locomotives were produced. Most of these are miniature or narrow gauge locomotives with the exception of two standard gauge locomotives for the Beamish Museum : The Steam Elephant and Puffing Billy replicas . In 2008 Alan Keef Ltd built the frames, wheelsets and drives for two Parry People Mover rail buses for the Stourbridge Town Branch Line (139001 and 139002). Some of Alan Keef's locomotives are replicas of steam locomotives, but they are powered by diesel engines. These are marked as steam outline (s / o) in the table below .
In 1987 the company took over the production of Motor Rail locomotives.
Alan Keef has restored several historically valuable locomotives including the Baldwin Class 10-12-D locomotive No. 778 now on the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway and No. 794 on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway , also known as the No. 590 to be led.
At the respective open day in September on the premises of Alan Keef, visitors can view and use rolling stock from various exhibitors as well as the in-house vehicle fleet on the permanently laid 2 and 3- foot narrow-gauge tracks.
