history

The initially U-shaped railway line was built in 1968 with used Cockerill rails on the edge of the amusement park with a station at each end. It was put into operation in March 1969 for passenger transport. Both stations each had a track triangle to turn the locomotives. In 1984 the route was expanded to a circuit around the park, which has a total length of 3 kilometers. Nowadays, the line stations in the areas Adventure Land and Fairyland and another station for the Feenfiguren.

  • Aagje (1911): The Orenstein & Koppel steam locomotive with work number 4930 was the park's first locomotive. It was previously in operation in the IJsseloord brickworks in Arnhem . In 1969 she began her “fairy service”. Previously it had been completely overhauled by Kees Neve according to Anton Pieck's ideas , whereby it was painted dark green. She received a tender because the public expected that from a steam locomotive at the time. Wheels from old mine cars were used for the tender. The locomotive also received a new boiler in 1979. More details were added later. For example, there is now a name tag near the steam dome . When the last parade was held for Queen Juliana in 1980 before she handed over the throne and crown to Beatrix , Aagje pulled the royal guests on temporarily laid flying tracks through the palace gardens of Palais Soestdijk .
  • Moortje (1908): The Orenstein & Koppel steam locomotive with the factory number 2697 was used after hard work in a Belgian colliery in Efteling.
  • Neefje (1914): Originally a fireless steam locomotive. In operation in Efteling from 1979 to 2001. This particular locomotive is named after Kees Neve, who converted and delivered Aagje, Moortje and Neefje for Efteling. He was a well-known expert among Dutch narrow-gauge enthusiasts.
  • Trijntje (1992): Built by Alan Keef in 1992. It is 3.90 meters long and 1.53 meters wide. It weighs about 7 t and its color is "Anton Pieck Red".
  • Diesel locomotive: Built by the Fritz Schöttler ( Diema ) machine factory in Diepholz and used for maintenance purposes.

Each steam locomotive pulls six cars designed by Anton Pieck. He also designed the tender, which was not originally common on these narrow-gauge locomotives.
