Garden peacock

Garden or English peacock pigeon

The garden peacock is an English breed of domestic pigeon . In contrast to other pedigree pigeons , garden peacock pigeons are not bred as exhibition animals. Nevertheless, they have been confirmed by the European Standard Commission for Pigeons (ESKT) of the European Association for Poultry, Pigeon, Bird, Rabbit and Cavia Breeding (EE) and are listed in the EE list of pedigree pigeons with the number 608.

The garden peacock is a simple pigeon with a fanned, funnel-shaped tail. Your posture is straightforward. She is robust, flies well and independently takes care of the rearing of her young. It can escape predators such as cats, dogs, foxes and martens.

Indian peacock (EE 607)

Garden peacock pigeons are kept in England, similar to the Chabo in Japan, to liven up the gardens as residents of small pigeon houses and to enjoy being with the animals. Often there are also crosses with the exhibition breeds peacock and Indian peacock or so-called " garden pigeons " ( English garden doves , garden pigeons ), a cross between white peacock pigeons and white carrier pigeons .

There are similar pigeons in the Montecassino Abbey in Italy and in the Wartburg in Thuringia. The pigeons there are said to have come to Eisenach with the dowry of Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia (1207–1231) .
