Garden roller

Garden roller

A garden roller (also known as a lawn roller ) is a garden tool that is used as a small roller (weight approx. 50 kg) to remove unevenness in the ground and to level and press in seeds. This compacts the soil after sowing and prevents the seeds from being eaten away, for example by birds. Sometimes the roller is also used to work patterns into lawns.

The rollers made of steel are available in different sizes and widths depending on the area of use. They have a long handle, which can sometimes be adjusted in height, and are pulled or pushed or moved by small vehicles. To achieve a higher contact pressure, they can be filled with water (approx. 50 kg) or sand (up to 120 kg). So there is a variation in weight, size and application. Most rollers also have a dirt scraper that prevents soil from being thrown up.

Remarkable

The most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, the Wimbledon Championships , was created to fund a lawn roller.
