Jean-Louis Gassée (born March 1944 in Paris ) is a French entrepreneur. He worked for Apple from 1981 to 1990 and then founded Be Incorporated .

Gassée was initially head of Apple's France branch and later went to the USA as head of Apple's development department. When he proposed to Apple management to develop a completely new operating system, however, he fell on deaf ears. So he left Apple and founded in 1990 with Steve Sakoman the company Be Incorporated which this operating system - the BeOS and specially optimized computer called - BeBox developed. However, the company was never profitable; In 2001 the operating system was bought out by the PDA manufacturer Palm Inc. together with the development team . Be Incorporated then brought a lawsuit against Microsoft that ended in a settlement. The resulting compensation payment was largely distributed to the remaining shareholders and the company was then wound up. Jean-Louis Gassée worked for Palm until 2002 and then worked as a manager in various companies, but was a member of the board of directors of PalmSource from fall 2002 , which he chaired in November 2004 and held until the end of 2005. He now works as a board director at the Californian venture capital company Allegis Capital.
