PalmSource

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PalmSource / Access is the manufacturer of the PDA - the operating system Palm OS .

PalmSource originally emerged from the software development division of Palm Inc. (today Palm ).

PalmSource has been operating as a separate and independent company since October 2003. PalmSource itself saw a number of advantages in this. Company president David Nagel expected an increase in the number of Palm OS licensees, a stronger focus on the core business and an improved competitive position.

The company further developed Palm OS and sold licenses to handheld manufacturers. In addition to Palm and Sony , licensees included Aceeca, AlphaSmart , Foundertec, Fossil , Garmin , GSPDA, HuneTec, Kyocera , Lenovo , LG Electronics , Percomm, Samsung , Symbol and Tapwave. The former licensee Handspring was taken over by Palm in 2003.

In September 2005, PalmSource was taken over by the Japanese company Access (manufacturer of the NetFront browser ) for US $ 324 million. In October 2006 the name PalmSource was changed to Access.
