Access was founded in Tokyo in 1979 . The company has been a stock corporation since 1984. Access offers embedded software for network devices such as cell phones , PDAs , game consoles , smart TVs and set-top boxes .

Companies

The Access CO., LTD. earned great recognition for their NetFront web browser , which was working on over 200 million devices as of November 2005. The engine also served as the basis for the globally successful i-mode data service from NTT DoCoMo . The browser is also used in Sony's PSP (firmware version 2.0 or higher).

In September 2005, Access acquired PalmSource , the rights owner of Palm OS and BeOS , for $ 324 million. Since October 2006, both companies have been operating under the common name Access .

As part of the development and marketing of the partially proprietary Access Linux Platform , a Linux-based software platform for mobile devices, Access is a founding member of the Linux Phone Standards Forum and joined the LiMo Foundation on February 1, 2008 .
