The cabinet map (1762) by Isaak Jacob von Petri gives an overview of Eilenburg and its suburbs:
(1) Sand community
(2) Leipziger Steinweg
(3) Zscheppelende
(4) Valley community
(5) Hainichen
(6) Hinterstadt
(7 ) Alley community
(8) Torgauer Steinweg

Gassen-Gemeinde (also Geßlinge or Gäßlinger Gemeinde ) was a municipality in the Eilenburg district and from 1815 in the Delitzsch district . The place was not as an official village schriftsässig and was one of the eight suburbs of Eilenburg . It was located northeast of the core city area of Eilenburg in the immediate vicinity of the Torgauer Steinweg . The community area extended over today's Martinstrasse.

history

The community, which consisted of just a few courtyards grouped around an alley, was first mentioned in 1421 as Vß der Gaße . It is probably a German settlement, the name of which goes back to a Slavic fish name. The small village was in an angle formed by the mill ditch and hollow , the so-called Spittelende. The Eilenburg hospital was previously located there .

In 1551 ten possessed men and four residents lived in the alley community , in 1747 the residents were already counted at Torgauer Steinweg . From this it can be deduced that the community probably came to Torgauer Steinweg before it was incorporated into Eilenburg. The central lane in the former village was named Martinstrasse in 1861 in honor of Martin Luther . Martinstrasse has retained its suburban character to the present day, although the originality has been lost through structural changes over the years.
