Gastein waterfall

The Gastein waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Austria and the landmark of Bad Gastein .

The waterfall is located in the middle of Bad Gastein and has been the subject of many famous painters and poets. The height of fall of the Gasteiner Ache in three stages is approx. 340 m. The negatively ionized air by atomization is an important therapeutic agent in the area.

The Gasteiner Ache arises from the Anlaufbach and the Naßfelder Ache in the core area of the Hohe Tauern National Park and flows into the Salzach outside the Gastein Valley. The stone waterfall bridge was built in 1840 and expanded in 1927. The water flow has decreased since 1980 due to the construction of a small power plant in the Böckstein district.
