history

In the building in Nettetal , made of quarry stone and now a listed building , the first beer was served in 1724. Johann Hermann zu Pillingsen († 1769) and his son Heinrich are the first attested innkeepers.

A bakery was attached to the inn by Caspar Heinrich's son, but the next generation of the family gave it up. Around 1870 was the innkeeper of the house Wilhelm Pilling, who in 1873 founded the company W. Pilling & Co. together with the blacksmith Ludwig Lüling. The Altena councilor Wilhelm Pilling (1881–1930) was the next innkeeper in the family history. His wife Paula geb. Mühlhoff (* 1889) continued the restaurant after his death in 1930.

In the late 19th century, early 20th century was the inn meeting place for masterminding and Reidemeister . It was also a meeting place for local associations, such as the guard association and the men's choir "Liederkranz". From 1905 to 1909 the foundation festivals of the Landwehr choir also took place in the Gasthaus Pilling. The "Evening Party on the Trott" founded in 1865 also used the rooms of the inn.

The last innkeeper in family tradition was Anneliese Pilling (1915–1982), who ran the inn in 1955 from her mother Paula, nee. Mühlhoff (* 1889) had taken over. After the death of Anneliese Pilling, with whom the last member of the old landlord dynasty died, her husband Karl-Heinz, who had taken his wife's name, continued to run the traditional restaurant for a while until he sold it for financial reasons. Since 1996 the house has been managed by the Brillert family, following on from its old tradition.
