Gasthaus Sonne in Lauffen am Neckar

The Gasthaus Sonne in Lauffen am Neckar in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg is a historic half-timbered building , the oldest parts of which probably date from the late 15th century. An inn has been in the building since 1861.

history

The development of this area of the Lauffen town between the Lauffen castle and the medieval old town area began from 1474 after the building of the Neckar bridge . The narrow half-timbered building of today's Gasthaus Sonne was built in 1677 on an older vaulted cellar. Notches and holes in the timber frame suggest that the required timber was rafted to Lauffen. The name Sonne for the inn was taken over in 1861 from an older, closed inn on the other side of the Neckar (in Sonnengasse). In 2004 the Weingärtnergenossenschaft Lauffen acquired the townscape-defining building and renovated it with financial support from the city.

Wall foundations were discovered in front of the house in Heilbronner Straße during sewer work. Ceramics and a sandstone mortar from the late Middle Ages were also found. The foundations are probably the remains of a destroyed cellar. This could indicate that this section of road was only created when the Neckar Bridge was built in 1474.
