Former inn "Zum Hirsch" in the pedestrian zone (renovated in 1679)

The former Gasthaus zum Hirsch is the oldest house in the city center of Zweibrücken .

location

The building is at the end of the pedestrian zone facing Hallplatz in Hauptstrasse 88.

history

The building was built in the 16th century; It was first mentioned in a document in 1583. It is one of the few buildings in the city center of Zweibrücken that was not destroyed during the Second World War. It is therefore somewhat lower than the pedestrian zone in front of it, which, like the neighboring buildings, was built on a layer of rubble.

investment

Integrated into the courtyard of the rear building is a stair tower from the former city wall of Zweibrücken . The foundations of the so-called hospital tower and a 50-meter-long section in the western part of this wall still exist today .
