The Gasthaus zum Ochsen in Mannheim-Feudenheim , Hauptstrasse 70, is the oldest inn in Mannheim and the surrounding area. It is a listed building .

Ludwig Back, magistrate and mayor of the court, built the ox in 1632 . The half-timbered upper floor consisting of strong oak beams was completed in 1680. The Back family farmed the ox for over 200 years.

The destruction of Mannheim in the Thirty Years' War and the Orléans War in 1632 and 1689, the inn survived almost undamaged. A bomb attack in 1944 threatened to destroy the “ox”, but the wife of the owner at the time, Ludwig Kessler, was able to extinguish the incendiary bombs that had penetrated the roof structure with sand at the risk of her life. After the war, the interior of the inn and the guest rooms were redesigned and expanded. The Gasthof zum Ochsen is still a restaurant today.
