The former “Zum Anker” inn is a listed building in the Magdeburg district of Westerhüsen .

architecture

The house is located at Alt Westerhüsen 15 and was built in 1890 with elements of the neo-renaissance style. The three-story, plastered building made of bricks has split and segmented gables on its first floor above the windows . Like the inn Westerhüsen to the north, the house belongs to the preserved part of the Wilhelminian style development along the main street of Westerhüsen.

history

The brewer Otto Bräutigam , who runs the brewery in the adjacent Alt Westerhüsen 16 building to the south , had the house built in his garden as the “Zum Anker” inn . Before the incorporation of Westerhüsens in 1910, the address was Schönebecker Straße 65 . At the beginning of the 20th century, Bräutigam gave up the brewery and opened a selter factory in Salzelmen . The inn then had changing owners.

In 1912 the Southeast cinema was opened in the courtyard of the house . During the Second World War , a small air raid shelter was set up not far from the cinema . In the event of an air alarm , the screening was canceled and the audience had to go to the air raid shelter. After the alarm ended, the demonstration did not continue. However, the entrance fee was not returned. The cinema remained in operation until the GDR era .

In 1920 the master locksmith Robert Kob bought the house. He set up a bicycle shop in the restaurant , which still exists today (as of 2011) and is still run by the Kob family . The upper floors of the house are used for residential purposes.
