Gaussstein (Garlste)
The Gaußstein Garlste is a listed Gaußstein in Garlstedt in Lower Saxony . It was used as a surveying pillar by the mathematician and geodesist Carl Friedrich Gauß in 1824 and 1825 .
The Gauss stone is a cuboid made of gray sandstone with a height of 1.46 m. The sides are 29 cm wide. The stone bears the inscription “Königl. Hannovr. Country. Survey 1828 ".
The Gauss stone served as a survey point in the course of the survey of the Kingdom of Hanover . It is 48.9 m above sea level. NN on the forest path "An der Forst" in Garlstedt, which was previously called "Garlste". A section of the surveying network with "Garlste" as a trigonometric point is shown on the last 10 Deutsche Mark note , which was legal tender from 1991 to 2001.
