Gautama Maharishi ( Sanskrit गौतम gautama m.) Is one of the seven wise men ( saptarishi ) in Hinduism .
myth
Gautama was married to Ahalya , who was the first of the women created by Brahma and was considered the most beautiful of all women. The god-king Indra fell in love with Ahalya. To get it, he turned into a rooster and crowed prematurely, whereupon Gautama got up and left the house to make the morning sacrifice. Indra now took Gautama's form and slept with the unsuspecting Ahalya. Gautama now cursed his wife, who petrified on it. When Rama accidentally touched the petrified Ahalya with his foot, the curse was released.
