Gayo Lues is a government district ( Kabupaten ) in the interior of the Aceh Province in the north of the Indonesian island of Sumatra .

With an area of ​​5710 square kilometers and 79,560 inhabitants (2010), Gayo Lues has a very low population density.

The majority of the residents live from agriculture . Important products are chilli , tobacco (Virginia), coffee and lemongrass . The main town and seat of government is Blangkejeren, from where tours to the northern part of the Gunung Leuser National Park are offered. Gayo Lues is also called the "Land of a Thousand Hills" (Negeri Seribu Bukit).

Gayo Lues is divided into eleven districts ( Kecamatan ) (population figures in brackets):
