At the request of Grand Duke Paul Friedrich , the prestigious Hôtel du Nord with 45 rooms for upscale guests was built in 1842/43 according to plans by court architect Georg Adolph Demmler . The U-shaped classical complex consists of the two four- to five-storey plastered half-timbered buildings, the entrance building on Schloßstraße with the ornate facade and the mezzanine floor, as well as today's residential building on Klosterstraße; another three-story half-timbered house serves as a connecting wing. The rear building had a horse stable and carriage room below. So hay and straw were stored in a mezzanine. On the second floor was a high ballroom with windows facing the courtyard; Walls and ceilings were decorated with gold strips, rosettes and paintings.

The hotel, which belongs to the Grand Duchy, was leased to the head waiter Friedrich Carl Neudecker. The buildings caused high maintenance costs for the landlord, so he sought to sell them in 1851. In 1852 the hotel business was stopped again and the facility was sold. After that, Neudecker renamed the Hotel Stadt Hamburg to Hotel du Nord . In 1909 this building at Schloßstraße 9/11 was demolished for a new building (today the Ministry of Finance).

After 1946 this was the seat of the CDU regional association for a time. In 2011/13, the buildings were rebuilt and renovated according to plans by the foreit group of architects (Schwerin).
