The building of the Banco de Valencia is in the style of neo-baroque built iron building in the center of the Spanish city of Valencia . Today it is considered to be the most important building of the Valencian Neo-Baroque.

location

The building is located in the historic center of the Spanish Mediterranean city of Valencia. Not far from the central square Plaça de l'Ajuntament is the triangular building at the point where the streets Carrer del Pintor Sorolla and Carrer de Don Juan de Austria in the Carrer de les Barques pass. The Teatre Principal de València , the largest theater in the city, is located directly opposite the bank building.

history

The building was designed as the new headquarters of the Banco de Valencia in 1935, mainly by the architects Javier Goerlich and Francisco Almenar. In keeping with the spirit of the times after the Spanish Civil War, the design contained regional stylistic elements. Finally, the later executing architects Vicente Traver and Antonio Gómez Davó made adjustments. On July 24, 1942, the new headquarters of the Banco de Valencia was officially inaugurated. At that time, the building towered over the surrounding houses by far.

In October 1957, the so-called Great Flood of Valencia caused damage to the building.

The CaixaBank in 2012 acquired the Banco de Valencia and the associated main building. The headquarters of CaixaBank have also been located in the building since December 2017.
