The building energy consultant Ingenieure Handwerker Bundesverband eV (GIH) is a German interest group for energy consultants . As the umbrella organization of 13 member associations in the federal states, it represents around 2,500 energy consultants, including master craftsmen, technicians, engineers, architects and natural scientists.

The prerequisite for membership is a technically oriented training and a recognized additional qualification as a certified building energy consultant (see Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) § 21). This corresponds to the admission requirements of the energy efficiency expert lists, which are maintained by the German Energy Agency . According to their own information, the GIH members handle a third of the total funding volume of a total of 15.5 billion euros per year and almost half of the measures in the KfW funding program “Efficient Building and Renovation”.

history

The first regional associations were founded in 1998/99 from the first courses on building energy consultants (HWK). Therefore the first associations were called GIH Gebäudeenergieberater im Handwerk eV. In 2001 they merged to form the Federal Association GIH Gebäudeenergieberater Ingenieure Handwerk eV. The name change became necessary due to the opening of the association to academically trained energy consultants. Since then, the GIH has grown and has around 2,500 members.
