There are various explanations about the origin of the name. Two theories emerge from the Silesian Name Book: The first says that the name is derived from the Bohemian dialect word for “fork”. The second explanation goes back to the dialect technical change of the surname "Göbel", "Göbler", "Goldebrecht" or "Godebald".
