Gebelein papyri

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gebelein papyri are a group of papyri that were found in 1935 during excavations by Giulio Farina in Gebelein in Upper Egypt . They are dated to the Old Kingdom and are now largely in the Museo Egizio in Turin , another in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo (JE 66844). Altogether there are at least 11 papyri and various papyrus fragments that came to light in a wooden chest.

One of the papyri is a list of workers for building a temple. In addition, the papyri contain notes on distributed food rations and there is a bread and a substance list. Sales receipts can also be found on them. Most of the papyri were published in 2004, but without a translation.
