Sonia Pulido

Sonia Pulido Flores (* 1973 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish illustrator and comic strip artist.

Life

Sonia Pulido was born in Barcelona and grew up there. She studied fine arts at the University of Barcelona and graduated with a specialization in engraving and cutting . Today she lives and works in El Masnou , a former fishing village 30 km north of Barcelona on the Maresme coast .

Prizes, awards and exhibitions

Sonia Pulido's career jumps back and forth between illustration and comic without defining herself. She has received a number of awards in both professional fields:

  • 1996 First prize for illustration “Joves creadors de Barcelona”, Barcelona / Spain
  • 1997 VIII Biennal of Young Artists in Helsinki / Finland and VIII Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM) in Torino / Italy
  • 1999 XV Bienal de Ibiza Ibizagrafic'99 in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Eivissa / Spain
  • 2002 First prize for illustration "edl Injuve", Madrid / Spain

Publications

Sonia Pulido started her career with illustrations for the magazines El País Semanal , Mujer 21 , Stripburger and Tretzevents . At the same time she published her own short stories in the renowned comics magazines Dos veces breve , NSLM and Tos .

Her first book was the graphic novel Puede que esta vez (Editorial Sins Entido, Madrid 2006 / Éditions de L'An2, Le Rosier 2006), where she worked on a text by Xavi Doménech, which was inspired by the song Maybe this time from Cabaret ( Musical) is inspired.

In July 2006 she started her own blog called El diario visual de Sonia Pulido (Sonia Pulido's visual diary) .

So far, the two books Cromos de luxe / Chromorama (Editorial Monográfico, Burgos 2007 / Les éditions de la Cérise, Bordeaux 2008) and Duelo de Caracoles / Duel d'escargots (Editorial Sins Entido, Madrid 2010 / Cambourakis, Paris 2011) have followed.

As an illustrator and comic author, Sonia Pulido now works regularly for the newspaper El País , the weekly newspaper El País Semanal and the magazine Rockdelux ; Commissioned work for the publishers Planeta and Anaya , for Kosmópolis (Center for Contemporary Art, Barcelona), Club Cultura magazine (FNAC), and others. a. for the publications Barcelona Magazine , Cinemanía , Ling , Calle 20 , Benzina , NSLM , Woman and Delicatessen (La Santa Cultura Visual).
