Gediminas Vagnorius

Gediminas Vagnorius (born June 10, 1957 in Vilkaičiai , Plungė district ) is a Lithuanian politician and former Prime Minister of Lithuania in 1991 and 1992 and from 1996 to 1999.

Life

After graduating from the 4th Telšiai Middle School in 1975 , Vagnorius graduated from the Faculty of Construction at Inžinerinis statybos institutas in Vilnius in 1980 and became an engineer. In 1987 he received his doctorate at the Lietuvos mokslų akademija Institute of Economics on economic decisions on the subject of "Techniques for balancing economic decision-making processes". From 1988 to 1990 he worked as a research assistant. From 1990 to 2004 he was a member of the Seimas . In the public and in politics he was known in particular for reforms after the declaration of independence, such as the introduction of the temporary national currency talonas (also known as vagnorkos and vagnorėliai ).
