Gedinge is a typical performance reward in mining (a kind of negotiated piecework ) or in agriculture . In some industries, people still pay according to the principle of the gift wage. On February 25, 2010, the Federal Labor Court confirmed the continued validity of the Gedinger Guidelines in the area of SR 2a of Section A of Annex 2 MTArb (Gedinger Guidelines) of April 1, 1964. In general, it is about the contrast between reward for time and for performance. In the case of remuneration for time, nothing is said about the work performance (this also applies to piece work, which is usually not part of the employment contract), the labor is freely available. This is not the case with the thing that precisely defines the performance.

Mining
In contrast to working over days, e.g. B. in workshops or on construction sites, direct monitoring of the work performance of the workforce in underground mining was not possible. A special form of remuneration developed as early as the 15th century: the thing . The matter is negotiated individually between local staff (represented by local or comradeship elders) and management (represented by Steiger or Obersteiger). Often a so-called trial cut was carried out under the supervision of the mining officials in order to be able to determine exactly the appropriate work performance under the given conditions.
Agriculture
In agriculture, the thing stood in contrast to the daily wage . You made a thing about a product to be delivered or another service as a whole, e.g. B. one could "make a deal with the smith because of the hoofbeat, hire him the same for a whole year."
